Outside the Classroom Walls

Student schedules- both inside and outside of school- can be quite crazy! From work to co and extra curricular activities-- it seems like there is never enough time to do everything you want (or need) to do. If the SBISD were to offer classes on-line through a virtual academy, would you sign up for at least one class? If so, why---if not, why not?

  1. Depends on what time these classes would start. If it was near say the afternoon, It would cause stress to those who do not own a computer to access these classes. It would be a break from doing assignments on paper with pencil. But yes, I would sign up for one of these classes. (:

  2. What if the classes were offered 24/7 (around the clock- anytime) and the computer was given to you to use until you were finished? I am thinking it might free up some of your time during the day to do other things or take other classes. For example, you could sign up for a class and work on it whenever you felt like it- night or day. You would have a certain number of weeks to finish your class, but you could do it at your own speed. Do you think kids would like that choice?

  11. I think this is a neat concept. I would like to see "not really classes", but assignments online so you have the option of turning in a printed copy, or turning it in online. That way, whatever the teacher assigns on paper (worksheets, readings, reviews, etc), or from a book is accessible at home. It would make the teacher partially accountable as well.

  14. I took an online class from Houston Community College this summer and it was great.

What kinds of classes are you suggesting? Core classes and electives or just one or the other?

  15. if it was like how you take college on the computer then yes only if u got out of normal school because it would be too much work haveing to go to school and come home to more school and if u were at home taking a class ur a little more comfortable and relxed and theres no one to bother u but im not sure how this would work would it be like a chat room or something else and what about textbooks and homework how would u turn it in would u email it or if the class is a chat room just paste it in to a comment and send it?but yes i would take that class because i like the computer and im on it all day anyways so i think my parents would be happy that i learning from it at least and then i am wondering about tests that would also be a problem to how would you prevent people from cheating?and would the class be one on one or with a group or would it just be a powerpoint and just taking notes and stuff so after i get a little bit more detail about this i think ill be able to answer more clearly but id say i would take these class for the most part
my school is Spring Oaks Middle School im in 8th grade

  16. i think it would be good to have online classes. you could chose what and when you wanted to do them. you should get a certain amount of weeks and then come in to take your test and turn in your work. it would make it much easier for the teachers and the students
